Poor Managment

Pros

The co-workers are pleasant. Food is available in the kitchen to make snacks and meals. Food prepared by cook is very good.

Cons

Poor management does not tell the truth about hours. Under-staffed and lack of pay makes it difficult to keep a full staff. Multiple training required but does not accommodate shift work.

Not great

Pros

- Some teams were great - Some supervisors were really good - Loved the clients!! - Paid overtime in hourly roles (a negative is that salaried is exempt from overtime) and usually discouraged to work more than 40 hours unless absolutely necessary

Cons

- Lots of unsupportive direct and higher level management - Horribly low pay - Absolute horror stories from other teams about their managers - No flexibility with remote or working from home unless you wanna do unpaid overtime - Accrued PTO/sick so if you run out you just have to take unpaid leave and sometimes they don't properly keep track of your PTO - Giant unmanageable caseloads - Severe lack of integration of diversity training, lots of microaggressions - High turnover makes these problems obvious - Burnout is essentially your problem. Zero plan from management for how to deal with this, they just tell you to do self care. - If career growth is important to you, it's nonexistent unless you stay for years - Working in mental health is generally challenging, so without supports in place, working here is incredibly difficult A lot of these things aren't unusual for community mental health, unfortunately. This is pretty standard for the field.

Disappointing

Pros

The pay was competitive for the area. The work environment was comfortable enough, and the nature of the work was meaningful.

Cons

The RN's back up in a mental health crisis, consisted of poorly supervised mental health workers. Their management was disengaged and unavailable, allowing for behaviors that were unacceptable in a work place and very disturbing to be around. Despite the obvious, and the multiple reports to management, the behaviors were allowed to continue, while these staff members fraternized and partied with the said management. Nursing management was also unavailable, disconnected and seemed uninterested in the reports of unprofessional conduct affecting the nursing staff. It was mysterious, as to how the nursing director acquired or kept their position, given the history of minimal nursing experience. The recruitment and retention of nurses was and continues to be disproportionate to the pay and benefits offered by the company.
