    Positive Outlook

I worked at DIA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Small global company, enjoyed working there, liked the people, good benefits, flexible schedule.

    Cons

Heavy workload and fewer people to handle it. Key staff split between PA and DC offices which could be challenging if you needed to speak with someone, and they were always in meetings.

    Advice to Management

Staff appreciation is important! They are dedicated and work quite hard.

I worked at DIA (More than a year)

    Pros

Interesting environment, worthwhile mission, good senior management team.

    Cons

Due to the challenges of changing a long-established organization, turnover has been high.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at DIA (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very few. Used to have work from home policy and good health benefits, but they are disappearing rapidly.

    Cons

People were the only true asset of this company, but due to the way they are treated the good ones are jumping ship as fast as they can. Too many Chiefs. All it takes is longevity to achieve Director title, but most don't really have the talent to back it up. Nothing new or innovative ever gets off the ground. Because we have always done it this way echoes around the office.

    Advice to Management

Need to hire a CEO with Association experience who understands that members and volunteers are what's important, not the bottom line.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at DIA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people and amazing benefits. Not a highly tiered organization. Breaking out of silos and challenging the way things have always been done.

    Cons

Streamlining and reinventing the organization means day to day life is transitional and challenging. I suspect this is the new new normal for those who love working at associations.

    Advice to Management

Consider reaching out to past employees for temporary or contract positions.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at DIA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Small - you can get to know everyone. Global - international scope and perspective. Mission - compelling. Neutral position with respect to pharma key and valuable to maintaining our reputation. Employees care about their work and their co-workers. Really good benefits. Turnover at leadership level largely stopped.

    Cons

Limited opportunities for upward mobility because people stay in their roles for a long time. We have dug ourselves out of a financial hole, so people are stretched a bit thin, but we are getting there. Communications to staff have grown more frequent but less personal.

    Advice to Management

"Thank you" to staff, in person and frequently, would be very helpful.

    Pros

They give great vacation time, full benefits paid, 401k matching and end of year bonus. They are also very understanding with work from home needs.

    Cons

I did not feel there was much to learn in this position that I did not already know and no real room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Encourage internal continuing education opportunites such as foreign language, certifications, etc. I did not feel supported in trying to further my education.
