I worked at DataRank for more than a year

    Pros

Great people, interesting work, beer on tap, and a fast paced start up culture that cultivates growth and learning. I learned a lot and was able to apply skills I learned to other areas of development later.

    Cons

A large work load made it a bit hard at first, and some occasional over selling by sales created some quick strange deadline, but for the most part things were okay.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees like adults, and be understanding, and things will go well for all. Reward late nights with some food or something to make it less of a pain.

I have been working at DataRank for less than a year

    Pros

Projects and Learning Opportunities: By far the greatest benefit to being at DataRank, personally, is the interesting and exciting projects I get to work on. Even as a junior software engineer at the company, I am working on complex data mining and machine learning tasks, on a massive dataset and in a modern powerful environment. Thanks to the mentorship of the more senior guys I work with, I'm able to tackle incredibly...

    Cons

There's currently no 401k available, though we've been told it's in the works. Dental insurance is also optional and is entirely at the employee's expense.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the freedom and trust in employees! We love it, and I think it will keep turnover at well below what's common for the industry as we continue growing.

I have been working at DataRank for less than a year

      Pros

Great work environment, lots of flexiibility. Coworkers are family, not just employees. Lean startup for longevity.

      Cons

Occasional sudden short deadline projects. Startup so not as established/ have as many existing resources in place.

I have been working at DataRank full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Hard to list them all. For one, the culture is outstanding. Your coworkers here aren't just coworkers, they are genuinely friends. Whether it's after work trivia, poker nights, or just grabbing beers after work; we enjoy being around each other. Second, the ability to really grow your skills and become more valuable as an employee is a huge plus. At DataRank, everyone matters and their job is crucial to the success of...

      DataRank Response

      February 20, 2015COO

Company culture ranks just as high as everything and everyone at DataRank. It reinforces a core value that the people are what fuels the culture, and that the hierarchy is flat, but exciting! Maintaining our current, cohesive culture at scale will be challenging as the company size ...

I have been working at DataRank

      Pros

DataRank is an incredible place to work. Every single member of the team here is treated as important and valuable. Personal growth is not only encouraged, but sought after by every employee here. "Open door policy" doesn't begin to describe how willing the people at DataRank are to help you or teach you something new. Everyone is friends, and culture/employee happiness is the first priority of the leaders here. It is...

      Cons

If you are not a self-starter, DataRank is probably not the place for you. You need to be able to focus on your own goals and set yourself up for success, no one else will hold your hand. Strong motivation to work hard and make real change is definitely necessary to be successful at DataRank. Since it is a relatively young start-up, things often change or need to be reassessed. Therefore, flexibility and a willingness...

I have been working at DataRank full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Great company to work for. Lot of interesting problems to solve with the freedom to explore the best solutions using the latest tools. Very open and relaxed work culture with a great take-the-time-you-need off to balance work and life.

      Cons

The lack of a 401k plan. This isn't huge since the pay/time off/insurance are good.

I have been working at DataRank full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Becoming a part of a social listening company is a steep learning curve for anybody. I was lucky enough to have people patiently train me, and answer all of my questions (even the dumb ones.) Once I got the hang of things I was given free reign to explore the possibilities of my work, developing my skills with trial-and-error, and learning every step of the way with coworkers who are also still learning the very intricate...

      Cons

My pay is a little low, which is understandable for a startup company, and for my little experience. But I would like to see employees getting higher pay overall as DataRank continues to grow.

      Advice to Management

Keep sharing your advice and compliments, it is very much valued by less experienced employees, and helps us to improve and stay positive about our work.
