I worked at Debenhams full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly colleagues and easy to get to from Ulsterbus Depot.

    Cons

One "manager" made made my life hell on earth, he changed my rota THEN had audacity to do so IN FRONT OF A CUSTOMER.

    Advice to Management

Fire that waste of space. What does he do anyway apart from harass members of staff.

I worked at Debenhams part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked at two different stores during my time with Debenhams. The first I was in Womenswear and I had an extremely organised and supportive manager and team.

    Cons

At the second store, the team did not work as much as one unit.
The company as a whole, messed up my pay on quite a few occasions, paid the minimum wage for my age group and made it hard for you to take breaks which you were not paid for anyway.

I worked at Debenhams part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Generally speaking, I had a definite time at Debenhams. The work wasn't too strenuous, was useful for me as a full-time student to get some money on the weekends and also a noteworthy addition to the CV. You're trained well, although it took until after Christmas for me to be taught fundamental things. The supervisors and other employees were great and also opened up opportunity in my social life.

    Cons

The emphasis on capital. Honestly, the head office value capital gain moreover customer service and that priority didn't align with my personal or political beliefs. I felt, at times, I was having to coerce customers into signing up for a credit card which, to me, felt wrong. Also, stripping staff of our discount card and not allowing us to have it if unless we signed up for a store credit card? Pathetic. The store's values are completely ill-suited, but at least it was fun.

    Advice to Management

Customers are more important that capital gain.

I worked at Debenhams full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - You can progress if you want to
-Different tasks, so you're not stuck on tills all day every day
    -Not sitting down all day
    -Friendly colleagues

    Cons

-Very understaffed: very difficult to focus on customer service when you have a lot of tasks to do and no staff
-Now you can only get discount if you open a Debenhams MasterCard which isn't great
-Different hours every week which makes it hard to have any routine, plus working bank holidays and barely any time off at Christmas ( which is the same as retail in general)
-As most people have said a lot of pressure to open Debenhams accounts

    Advice to Management

Stop cutting hours, it's already so understaffed and appreciate how hard your employees work
