I have been working at DermStore full-time

    Pros

Small agile teams, fun company sponsored activities, ability to have a voice.

    Cons

Some negativity/pessimism still exists on certain teams.

    Advice to Management

Dermstore is a great place to work especially right now. The leaders in place are growing the bottom line and empowering the teams to take on more ownership in driving the business. If you want to have really big scope in your job and be able to make an impact at every level it’s a good place to be right now.

I worked at DermStore full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

For a brief period under former ceo's Abhijit & then Cathy, it was a good place to work and a great turnaround story. They had built a phenomenal culture and helped build dermstore into a marketing powerhouse. Revenue doubled, teams grew, top talent was groomed, and there was a clear direction.

    Cons

Theres been a slow hammeroage of talent since last year. The president and vp of marketing left last year, the new vp of marketing lasted 6 months. Lots of managers (the doers) are gone across all teams. Direction is unclear and the momentum is eroding.

    I worked at DermStore full-time

    Pros

Free beauty products and a great employee discount. Good work-life balance. 401K matching.

    Cons

The culture has changed a lot since the current president has joined, which has destroyed morale and caused a number of employees to leave. Excluding customer service, the business was run by about 60 people and at least 12 employees have left in the last 3 months. The latest departure is the VP of Marketing, who only stayed for a few months before returning to her previous company. The company structure has become...

    Advice to Management

Recognize that your most valuable asset isn't your brand, your strategy, or your processes; it's your people. Not just the people with VP or Director titles, but also the individual contributors. Get to know them, listen to what they have to say, and make them feel like their voice and their ideas are important again.

I worked at DermStore full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - generous discount on amazing skincare products - flexible working hours (dependent upon department) - good benefits (i.e. medical, dental, 401k) - snacks/beer tap

    Cons

After 19 years you would think this company would be killing it in the industry and be a recognizable brand, but it's terrible leadership has contributed to it's sub par existence. In the 3 years I worked at Dermstore, I saw 4 President's pass through. That's a telltale sign something is very wrong with this place. The current leadership is a joke, they have no clue what they are doing, there is no clear strategy that...

    Advice to Management

Advice to Target - dissolve the company. It's really doing nothing for your buisness. Advice to President/Leaders - get your crap together! Pull your head out of your backside and lose the ego and inflated heads - it's not all about you. Build a strategy that actually makes sense. Include the whole company in your decisions. You have smart, talented people working for you at lower levels, but you put dummies in leadership...

I worked at DermStore full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great discount on product, casual environment, Target benefits are great, some really smart talented people. It used to be a great place to work under different leadership. Dermstore has a huge potential (if they can retain their employees)

    Cons

Office environment is not conducive for productivity, very limited holiday time off, subpar pay, teams work in silos, no sense of team work or camaraderie, gossip culture, very cliquey, no defined career path, no employee development, negative environment everywhere you turn, lack of communication from the top down and between teams, very high turnover, frequent change of leadership that leads to frequent change in strategy...

    Advice to Management

Your excitement for the future of the company is contagious. Your belief in the executive team is exciting; however, you need to make sure that the camaraderie you have as an executive team is trickled down to each of their teams. Instead of separating yourselves from your subordinates, make them feel heard and valued. You need to instill a sense of trust. Make an effort to get to know your employees. I can guarantee...

    I worked at DermStore full-time

    Pros

The company has some great employees and products, it’s a shame that everyone working there is so unhappy.

    Cons

Stay far away from this company. There is a mean girls culture of favoritism and bullying. No room for growth and pay is way below par.

    Advice to Management

Hire better leaders who are respectful and knowledgeable.

    I worked at DermStore full-time

    Pros

They carry over 700 brands and employees get 20% to 51% off. The dress code is casual. Centrally located easy to shop and go to the gym after or before work.

    Cons

Favoritism and nepotism is rampant here as well as racism. There is a strong mean girls culture here with lots of bullying and cliquey-ness. There is a really high turnover rate I was there more than a year and in that time there were 3 different presidents. There is no clear direction or company objectives. Everyone employed there is basically pretending to know what they're doing but your main objective is to be...

Target should just dissolve this company and actually absorb it into Target Beauty. I think this company would be better suited in MN near Targets HQ.

Can be motivating if your one of upper management favorites.

    Cons

Felt like high school most of the time. Even if you know what you were doing, and do your job well, if your not part of the "in" team you will get pushed out and passed over.

I worked at DermStore full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pay is decent, unlimited sick days, free snacks and beverages, laid-back and casual environment

    Cons

-Oh boy, where do I begin? This company is on their 12th president in the last 10 years, and the current one has no idea what she's doing. She spends money on the most frivolous things and is always talking about her favorite hobby: drinking wine. Advice to Management

Stop hiring so many people from Target before they end up replacing all of you, hire better CEOs, become more transparent, and keep your office clean. It's filthy and embarrassing.
