I worked at Distributed Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are some good people at DSI. The best things about working there are the flex hours and telecommuting possibilities. You can also bring your dog to work and there is a lot of free processed food in the kitchen.

    Cons

Low pay, well under national and local averages. The flexibility is nice, but you can't pay your bills in Snickers bars.

    Advice to Management

Less micromanaging from the CEO. I understand you're trying to be a "flat" and "agile" organization, but you're really not agile, and the flatness in your context is hindrance, not help. You need more middle managers who are going to lead and keep the CEO out of minutiae.

I worked at Distributed Solutions (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Quirky owner creates a family style seemingly caring atmosphere.

    Cons

Pay raises are paltry and sales plans change at a whim to severely managed down commissions. This company is paranoid about its intellectual property and the intentions of its employees. It looks to take advantage of its clients thru obtuse contract language that alienates its client base.

    Advice to Management

Follow thru on your commitments to clients and your workforce.

I worked at Distributed Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Experienced, knowledgeable, management team. Proven, well architect-ed solution, great place to work. Solid benefits package, catered lunches on Fridays! Good work-life balance.

    Cons

Government policy and directives limit their ability to expand into other Federal agencies. Only a few big contracts that drive product priorities and revenues.

I worked at Distributed Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Maybe a little more freedom, but likely more rope to get hung by.

    Cons

Company culture is very strange. Upper management is always complaining, but won't do anything to make things better.

    Advice to Management

Put someone in charge that knows what their doing.

I have been working at Distributed Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work from home, allowed t bring pets to work if you have one, company provided break room and Friday lunches. Decent benefits package for families.

    Cons

Salaries go stagnant after a couple of years. See more money wasted on executive salaries for people who should be able to perform better than they do. Very little promotion within the company. a couple personalities are permitted to get away with behavior that would otherwise get you fired for less.

    Advice to Management

Take care of the middle worker and stop wasting money on outside consulting services. The core group is what makes a company successful, not some pompous arrogant consulting personality.

    Pros

Lots of day-to-day benifits - fully stocked kitchen and flexible hours

    Cons

Raises are non-existent unless you are family or close to the family. Working hours are flexible but senior management often doesn't arrive until late afternoon. No concern for employees. HR has been rendered useless - employees put up with foul comments from current employee regularly - constantly overlooked.

Unless you are family, married to family, or family friends, raises and opportunities are nonexistent. Many employees working here have not seen a raise or review for numerous years. As a previous review has mentioned, a snickers bar doesn't pay bills.

    Advice to Management

Show up and see what is going on with your employees during regular workday hours.

    Pros

Do nothing and never get fired. Bring your dog to work... Every day

    Cons

No process whatsoever. Nothing documented. It's truly a mess.

    Advice to Management

    Get some outside help.

    Pros

Great benefits, flexible work schedule, good pay

Sr mgmt often comes in at the tail end of a project and changes direction.

    Advice to Management

Hire people that you believe can do the job and let them do it.
