I have been working at Dow (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good people and leadership.
    Flexible work schedule.

    Cons

I actually see why some people hate the forced ranking. Its great for people who are knowledgeable in their work. But once you are inexperienced in a particular field, I have noticed that people don't really 'help'. They might take time to explain in brief but it is not helpful in successfully completing projects. Also, avoid making people work alone on legacy projects. Half the time they're lost trying to figure out where to start.

I worked at Dow full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Benefits, intelligent co-workers, strong incentive plans for performers

    Cons

where HQ is located is quite a disadvantage for millenials to want to work for Dow long term.

    Pros

Benefits aren’t too bad and most people that you work with are really nice.

    Cons

Some of the admins bully and gossip on a daily basis, others don’t know how to do basic tasks and make it harder for someone that actually knows what they are doing.

    Advice to Management

Ask for feed back from other employees on all levels in regards to support staff.

I worked at Dow full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Big company allows one to experience vast range of products and technologies
    - Great training in product development process
    - Opportunities for professional development such as six-sigma
    - Wonderful analytical sciences division with all the latest and greatest instrumentation (though everyone is overworked)
    - Researchers from other departments are willing to help even if they don't know you

    Cons

    - Lower than average industry salary, does not take into account the cost of living in PA w.r.t HQ in MI

The following are for the Adhesive and Functional Material Business (not for broader Dow organization),
    - Science is almost entirely about trial and error, instead of rigorous application of scientific method. You don't need a PhD to do the kind of work most scientists do
    - Most projects are minor improvements type
    - Lack of foresight and courage to pursue innovative research and product ideas
    - Favoritism and politics in the group even at very low level
    - Deserving candidates don't get recognized or promoted
    - Some blatantly took credit for someone else's work
    - Incompetent management - my manager specifically had utterly inadequate scientific and management aptitude
    - Don't assign dedicated technicians to all PhDs
    - Management changes every two years as people hop around within the company, as a result managers don't pursue long term efforts that are necessary for a thriving research organization
    - Frequent restructuring usually resulting in no tangible benefit

    Advice to Management

See the cons, and address them. Make the workspace fair and pleasant, and drive the organization to do rigorous research instead if taking the shotgun approach

I have been working at Dow full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The opportunity in the company right now is staggering.

    Cons

Just like with any company, you run into those people that obviously got their jobs because they could not perform at their previous job and their leaders wanted to get rid of them. There are not as many of them right now, though.

I worked at Dow full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I first started in the Commercial Development Program in Asia Pacific, which helped me so much in my professional development under the training and coaching of world-class trainers and top salespersons in my country. The leaders in the company are inspiring and strong in different areas. The benefits of the company in my country was great for a fresh person like me. The culture is diverse and driven by sales function, which has both pros and cons, but it is good for the moment.

    Cons

However, the salary increase scheme was a bit weird that was not proportional to the growing responsibilities (after the Commercial Development Program). Maybe just in our situations, I don't know about other positions.

    Advice to Management

It'd be great if the company have a more flexible benefits program to better reflect work responsibilities, not the seniority.
