Pros

The school is named after a great person and leader.

Cons

My experience at Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy has been deeply disappointing and has raised serious concerns about leadership, transparency, and the overall environment within the school. From my perspective, many of the school’s problems stem directly from the CEO and members of the administrative team, whose decisions often created a climate that felt unprofessional, inconsistent, and unsupportive. One of the most concerning issues I observed was the way the school presents its college acceptance rates. In my experience working there, the numbers promoted publicly did not match what I saw internally. The messaging often felt misleading, especially considering the academic data I encountered firsthand. I reviewed ACT scores during my time at the school, and the averages I personally saw were around a 13, a number that does not align with the high college acceptance claims repeatedly advertised. Another major problem was how administration handled the challenges within the school. From my perspective, leadership repeatedly placed blame on teachers for nearly every issue, while taking little to no accountability themselves. Instead of providing clear expectations, proper resources, or consistent support, administration often deflected responsibility. This created a stressful environment where teachers felt targeted rather than helped. On top of that, the school’s environment felt unsafe and chaotic at times. In just my first two months, I personally witnessed nearly a dozen physical fights occur in the building. These incidents contributed to a sense of instability that made it extremely difficult for both students and staff to focus on learning and growth.

Pros

NONE! This school is a joke.

Cons

This school is so unethical, changing student grades to increase their performance output, leadership was brought on from a failed school. Kids cannot read and write! Do not be fulled by the shiny nice new building your kids will learn nothing here! Do not work here! Leadership is shady and unethical, will not support you, or discipline kids.

Pros

Access to rigorous curriculum, diverse staff, variety of student activities and classes. Teachers put in a lot of work and are relentless in investing in students despite significant behavioral needs. The principals are outstanding and there are many supporting staff members (office workers, maintenance workers, EA's) that make it enjoyable to work here. It's overall a strong mission, and the brain power to make it happen is certainly in the building.

Cons

Upper admin has a serious transparency problem. Horrendous inconsistency with discipline. Significant favoritism of students by certain administrators who refuse to hold students accountable. For example several teachers can agree that a student shouldn't return due to behavior, but "Social Emotional" Deans will find a way around for their favorites (even though it will bring down the standard for school culture and make accountability harder for teachers). Upper admin is very concerned with image rather than actual needs of staff and students. Rarely consults frontline staff on ideas. Less than 10 percent of scholars who graduate from here actually complete college. Grade fixing and having kids fill out dozens of college applications is what gets the slogan "100% college acceptance rate." Many students are pushed on to the next grade without actually being ready just to appease parents and retain numbers.
