Poor management and disregard for employee wellbeing

Cons
Working here was easily one of the worst job experiences I’ve had. There’s no proper heating in winter, just a couple of weak floor heaters that barely make a difference. You’re expected to work long hours for very low pay, and still take on responsibilities far beyond what you’re actually paid for. The business is run on excessive hours with very little regard for staff wellbeing. The owner shows little to no care for employees and treats people as completely disposable. Senior management have a consistently poor attitude and speak to staff with little respect. You’re constantly being watched and listened to, which creates a tense and uncomfortable working environment. They even send family members around to act like enforcers, carrying out “shop checks” and filling in weekly reports. These visits don’t reflect the reality of how hard staff work day to day, only how things look for the short time they’re there, which is misleading and unfair. Basic standards are ignored. Breaks are not given, despite this being a legal requirement, and it’s clearly something they’re fully aware of. On top of that, staff are expected to sell out-of-date products without question. There’s a clear issue with favouritism. Untrained staff, often friends or family, are brought in and create problems for others, yet face no consequences. The shops themselves feel neglected and outdated, like they’ve been left behind decades ago. What stands out most is the complete lack of care for employees. Even in serious personal situations, there’s no understanding or support. Overall, it’s a poorly run business that takes advantage of its staff, ignores basic legal standards, and shows no respect for the people keeping it running.
