Pros

When joining Ember, the role is presented very positively, and initially it feels like a modern and forward-thinking company. On the positive side, pay is competitive, the overtime structure is clear, and there are additional benefits such as a Christmas bonus. The fleet is modern and well-equipped with technology

Cons

Over time, some aspects of the operation don’t quite match those first impressions. There have been some inconsistencies around deductions for rest breaks. Comfort could be improved, particularly with seating and ergonomics. The reliance on multiple touchscreens can also be distracting while driving. Electric vehicles bring their own challenges, and range management can sometimes add pressure to the role. Drivers are responsible for cleaning their vehicles, which is a reasonable expectation as it is a paid duty. However, in practice, cleanliness standards can be quite inconsistent. It is not uncommon to start or take over a shift with a vehicle that has not been cleaned to an acceptable standard. While deep cleaning is said to take place, this does not always appear evident, with some buses showing clear signs of leftover dirt, spills, and general wear from previous journeys. This can make it more difficult to maintain a professional environment for passengers and adds extra pressure on drivers to address issues within limited turnaround time. Working across different hubs can also be challenging. Facilities and support can vary, and it is not always easy to access the equipment or resources needed to properly clean and maintain the vehicle. Break environments at some locations could also be improved. Journey schedules can feel quite tight at times. Communication with operations is generally polite, but feedback does not always appear to result in noticeable changes. There can be a feeling that driver input is not fully acted upon, which may be frustrating for those looking to contribute ideas or improvements.
