The staff and employees are incredible, the culture is inclusive and people-centric, the mental health benefits are exceptional, the mission, values and impact of the organization are meaningful, equitable, and satisfying.
Cons
In terms of infrastructure, the APA is a dinosaur. For most of its existence, the APA relied on income from publishing and journals and so never developed any other real avenues for revenue generation. As a result, members believe it should operate as a guild with unlimited services and resources for which they pay little to nothing. Meanwhile, trying to launch revenue generating programs has been challenging not only due to membership pushback, but also due to antiquated technology and policies designed around providing services for free.
