Pros

Lots of over-time, and the people at the branch are friendly and helpful.

Cons

Where to start? Seems to be that running a skeleton crew is SOP (standard operating procedure) Training itself for this job dealing with large amounts of cash is only a week long. You are expected to learn most if not all of the federal laws, rules, regulations as well as those mandated by the company in regards to fraudulent activities: ie scammers, drug dealers and any criminals conducting business and using Amscot as a means to launder their ill gotten gains. There is no real training for learning the software system, it’s given during the one week of training which is rudimentary at best. So after you pass the test you’re sent to a branch not too far from where you live, and then pretty much thrown to the wolves. You have to learn the system on the fly, there’s no actual time to learn the basics just memorize and ask someone. You can’t leave to go on your lunch break, it’s all paid for and you stay there on the clock. But if it gets really busy and you somehow forget to take your break, well then tough luck because you’re not allowed to take one after 5 or 6pm. You’ll be expected to work at least 9-11 or 12 hour shifts for three or four days a week which is exhausting, and you also have to comply with company rules by taking online courses/quizzes on federal and company guidelines which are given weekly. No real recovery, you spend your day off doing just that. Recovering. Customers are mostly working regular people, some nice and pleasant. You also get the very rude ones who think that you’re there for their benefit, plenty of insults hurled at you daily. Company policy is not to take things personally, but it wears on you from hearing these foul and unbelievable things say in day out. It takes a toll on you. There has to be a limit to customer service, the the customer is always right is absolute crap. Respect goes both ways. I’m here for now until something else comes along, how long I have no idea.

Thanks for your feedback. Our initial training program is 90 days plus we continuously do training throughout the year. For security reasons, we do ask that associates do not leave. Breaks are paid for and breaks can be taken how often is needed/wanted throughout the day. We do ask that you are available for our customers when they come in. We understand that there may be some customers that are difficult to deal with, if this happens, please call the Home Office so that we can better support you in handling. We hate to hear that you may be leaving soon, hopefully you will contact Human Resources so that we can help resolve the concerns you have before it gets to that point. If not, we wish you the best with your next employer.

Pros

I personally, after years of serving tables and bartending, find the job and the environment much easier on me mentally to work in. Work is repetitive, same transactions all day and I like consistency and being able to slightly go into “auto pilot” comfortably when I feel like I need to. Training was awesome, I’m so used to getting thrown to the wolves at a new job, and having a full week of training and learning before being in the branch was awesome, however there’s still not 3 training centers in the state, so you may have to commute every day for 5 days. MY branch, personally, is full of amazing coworkers who make coming to work not so bad.

Cons

THE PAY. Especially when you consider the responsibility to carry with compliance and high amount of money. The pay is SAD. The pay needs to be more. And they push people to promote to leadership, but for what??? A 25 cent an hour raise with LOADS more responsibility? It doesn’t make sense. The only people who make decent money are overnight leaders. Even the branch leaders are making petty money. Also they use out-dated “paid vacation” instead of giving PTO. You get ONE week after AN ENTIRE YEAR with the company. And they don’t even approve your unpaid time off requests that easily… I’m someone who’s use to taking a week off like 4 times a year, and I don’t care whether it’s paid or not, but I feel like I can’t do that anymore and it’s driving factor that could lead to my separation from the company.

Thank you for your honest feedback. We’re glad to hear that the training process and your coworkers have made a positive impact on your experience here. Regarding your concerns about pay, we understand your frustration. It’s important to us that our compensation is competitive and fair. While you may think that our base pay may not always reflect the responsibility of each role, promotions typically come with a significant pay increase, and we aim to ensure that employees are rewarded for their growth and leadership development. We know time off is essential, which is why employees do not have to have any PTO in order to take time off, we grant many unpaid time off requests throughout the year. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. Your feedback is valuable as we work to make this an even better place to work. We appreciate your continued dedication to the team!
