Pros

The benefits are great. Great place to start out if you're young and just entering the world of sales. Met a lot of great people, resulting in long-term friendships.

Cons

Worst management. If you know more than your BRE (branch manager), he/she will berate you until you start questioning yourself. BRE ALSO DELEGATES ALL THINGS HE/SHOW DOES NOT KNOW and passes it off as "training". BRE essentially gives all employees with all tasks that he/she should be doing while their time is used for personal work on company hours. There is no such thing as respect. Even if you supersede your goals the entire time you have been with the bank, management will not applaud you-rather they question how you earned all those sales. Despite all the job duties an individual takes on and making an exceptional scorecard, employees are grossly underpaid. Customer service is not a priority. If it was, management would try and retain employees dear to customers. Management only focuses on numbers and how to wheedle sales out of anyone that walks in. Their favorite motto is "we are not a non-profit". If your style is to do sales that genuinely benefit your customer, you will be challenged and told that your sales did absolutely nothing for the branch. There is no work-life balance as well. Your life is not a priority. If you are an hourly employee, your breaks and lunches should be taken within proximity to your work station so you can jump up to assist your co-workers in any given time. Why is it this way? Because management thinks there is no need for more staffing. Understaffing is thematic across the board which has resulted in overworked employees and a high attrition rate. Understaffing has also led to poor lobby management. Let me reiterate, employees are treated like they are at mercy of upper management and customers are treated as if they are lucky to have the privilege of being serviced.

Pros

BBVA as a whole, it has a very friendly work environment and has a unique culture unlike any other bank in midtown

Cons

That being said, any team or department that lefts unchecked can end up becoming toxic which happened at my team. There was a VP/ED who was mistreating me to a point where it was a violation of the code of conduct and was impacting my overall internship experience and my chances at a full time job because this ed/vp was allowed to mistreat based on personal biases against me. I reported it to our manager during our midterm meeting to which I phrased it as “he was in violation of the code of conduct and has been abusive”. Instead he yelled at me during the meeting because he didn’t want to lose someone who downgraded from a BB that he got for cheap. He said in the end of the meeting he would talk with the Ed/vp but a month later he pulled me into a room with HR and said today was the last day of my internship. Very unprofessional as he clearly sided with the toxic Ed/vp and booted me out because he didn’t want to lose the Ed/vp even if he was in violation of the code of conduct. Horrible experince and everyone in my team failed to uphold to professional decency. As long as everyone in that team is still there would not recommend this team at BBVA unless something structurally changes.
