I have been working at Bain & Company full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Bain really lives and breathes its values. I feel both challenged yet supported every single day, and truly feel that I am making an impact. I have pivoted multiple times within Bain and I can 100% say that Bain supports people to build their own individualized career journey.

    Cons

Bainies work very hard, but this goes hand in hand with the desire to deliver outstanding results.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Top-tier training, learning, and exit opportunities Positive, collaborative, supportive culture Incredibly smart, caring people / teams Consistent advancement opportunities Home office staffing model that leads to far less travel than other firms (and typically better travel when you are on a travel case) Working on very interesting, challenging problems for household name clients

    Cons

All of the cons are inherent to consulting / client services - think Bain does a fantastic job of managing where possible. That said: Sustainability - the work/life balance is a struggle for a lot of Bainies, from AC through partner Stress - working on big problems isn't easy :) the "constantly steep learning curve" is real. You have the training, the tools, and support, but it's still hard. Travel - M-Th travel...

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Welcome to Bain. I'm going to give you a problem that neither the CEO nor his entire management team could solve. And I'm probably going to give you lots of different opinions and imperfect data sources. And then I'll ask you to focus in on where the most value is and convince all those people with different opinions that you're right. But don't worry, I'm also going to give you a Bain team. Those associates and...

    Cons

Here's how you know you've made it at Bain. The reward for doing a good job is getting a bigger, tougher problem next time. Meaning, you are always solving the easiest problem you will ever solve again. This takes a lot of resilience and active managing of self-expectations to remember that you are not actually getting worse, the problems are just getting harder. So my advice is to remember that. And then take a...
