Pros

You do all the hard work for very little pay. I would guess about 2-5% of people who do this job make any real money. The rest lose a LOT of money trying to get it off the ground while working for free. No benefits ever with one of the 'fastest growing companies in America.' Terrible ethics when it comes down to it.

Cons

It is dressed up like advertisers love this product. They don't. And magazine is not sent to every household in the neighborhood. Very hard sell in real time and the company takes most of the money. 'Baseline' is not a real number. Don't take my word for it, talk to real publishers in the industry first. They'll tell you this is not a real publisher role. Sure does sound good though.

Pros

The opportunity to build a meaningful, hyper-local community magazine from the ground up Exceptional support while still allowing true entrepreneurial freedom A company that invests in your mindset, confidence, and leadership The chance to connect deeply with local businesses and neighbors A culture that truly practices “people first” Training that sets you up for success, even if you’ve never done this before The ability to create something you’re proud of in your own hometown

Cons

Launching a brand-new magazine requires a lot of upfront time and hustle Financial pressure in the beginning, while building relationships and sponsors Steep learning curve when managing sales, production, and community outreach You wear many hats as a publisher — sales, marketing, networking, and leadership Requires thick skin and persistence, especially in the early stages You truly have to embrace the entrepreneurial mindset
