Pros

immediate vesting in the 401k and not much else

Cons

I just started and this is the worst employment process on the planet. They demand you provide PII through open means such as telling you to leave your full social on voicemail, then demand proof of citizenship (not work authorization) over email. I need to get a new passport since I have to assume the current one is compromised and added to an identity theft site. I am glad I have a passport to sacrifice since the other choices were birth certificate or equivalent like a naturalization certificate. The claim is citizenship verification is required to be verified before the start date from a picture and video call. Nobody in their right mind does junk like this! Competent employers ask for the documents to be brought in person! And by the time they told me this junk it was after noon on the day before my start date. So you better not give a two week notice before starting at Boeing since you might not have a job on your start date! As I did not have a job on my start date! You will start whenever they get around to it since they have paychecks. Any delays for things they do not communicate to you is your fault just like the military.

Pros

Easy going, nice benefits, free further education (masters/PhD). Great for an engineer starting out who needs to dip their feet in the pool of engineering for a few years and to get a great 401(k) match at the start of your career (compounding growth). Great for late stage career due to the benefits and solid enough pay in a low cost of living area

Cons

pay-scale lagging, no emphasis on learning new things, no punishment for people who are bad at their job. After working for 4 years, I feel like I should have jumped ship after 2. I haven't been given meaningful work that really challenges me in a while. Now I feel pigeonholed into staying because I have enough years of experience that I really should be considered senior, but I haven't been given work that reflects what I senior engineer should be capable of. Now I'm trying to jump ship before it's really too late. If I stay here another 2 years I think I will be genuinely unemployable and will have to stay at this company forever.
