Pros

The company has a robust reputation in the industry. Impressive name on your resume if you want to work in derivatives. Good compensation and benefits with a reasonable workload.

Cons

Little to no thought diversity at any level of management. Diversity initiatives are performative and mostly include hiring interns and junior employee POC. Self expression via colorful fashion, piercings, tattoos, dyed hair is siliently discouraged. This is a very conservative company, if you don’t appear to be conservative or completely devoid of opinions, you will not succeed here no matter how smart and capable you are. Managers are not supportive of employees’ involvement in employee resource groups, especially those that touch on social issues like climate change, LGBTQIA issues, and disabilities. Higher ups also silently discourage asking questions, especially in larger meetings. The message they spread about valuing their employees thoughts and opinions is empty rhetoric.

To ensure we stay on track, we regularly survey our team about their experiences, including the areas you mentioned. Your observations differ from the feedback we’ve received from the majority of our employees, who rate these dimensions highly and above global standards. That said, we take your feedback seriously and provide several avenues to raise concerns, including reaching out to our HR (HumanResources@cmegroup.com) or Compliance (cme.compliance@cmegroup.com) groups, or using our anonymous, third party administered compliance and ethics helpline at www.ethicspoint.com. Pros

Strong engineering culture with exposure to large-scale financial systems, distributed architecture, and production-critical platforms. Good opportunities to learn modern cloud, performance, and reliability engineering.

Cons

Bureaucracy and internal politics can sometimes outweigh technical merit. Employees who take ownership or challenge inefficiencies may face delayed recognition, unclear growth paths, and shifting expectations, leading to frustration and disengagement over time.
