Pros

Exposure to an array of modern technology. Work alongside subject matter experts that will aid with your personal development. Permanent employees are assigned a training plan that include instructor led courses. Courses include VMware, Microsoft, Cisco, Dell and others. Competitive salaries are on offer with rewards for individuals who go above and beyond what is required. Overtime is available where required and within the Managed Services side of the business, an on call calendar is in operation which new employees may be invited to join as positions become available. Castleton are a company who like to promote from within, during my time as an employee I have been fortunate enough to be promoted to a point where I am a member of the Management Team for Castleton Managed Services. When I started working for Keylogic 6 years ago, I was taken on as a Junior Consultant. Unlike roles I have held within previous companies, if you are promoted, you are not kept artificially low and are remunerated to reflect your change in responsibility. Where customer visits are required, employees may make use of a company provided pool car. Pool cars are available at all major offices and in most cases, a fuel card is used to avoid paying for fuel and claiming back via expenses. Where site visits are more than 2 x hours away from your usual place of work, an overnight stay can be booked via the corporate booking system. From a social point of view, Castleton have in recent years had separate Xmas parties for Managed Services and Software Solutions. However, there are plans this year for a joint party. Further social gatherings are to be arranged by the Social & Innovation team, those being discussed include the likes of go-karting and paintball! In order to get up front and honest feedback from employees, a number of staff lunches & dinners are being held with our Managing Director. Castleton has been growing up over the past few years following a number of acquisitions. Many of the companies acquired had previously operated with a flat hierarchy, this has taken time for employees (including myself!) to gel within the new structure. The company is certainly run more like a medium sized organisation instead of a number of smaller companies coupled together. Now is a great time to join following a series of new business wins that new employees can become involved with!

Cons

The company pension isn’t as strong as those available in the public sector, however this is improving year on year. Due to the number of acquisitions, information isn’t currently in a single repository, this is set to change with a planned project to resolve this. Working practices are still evolving within the new structure.

Pros

In the beginning there were lots of supportive, knowledgeable and friendly people around, but alas most of these have left and so did I. I am sad to say it is the worst company I have ever wasted my engery on and am so glad to see the back of it, even with a £8,000+ pay reduction to do so!

Cons

Salaries (if you were young, pretty and of the desired gender) were competitive. Otherwise "you should suck it up because (insert sexist, ageist or racist comment here) and you'll be pretty close to the mark. Working and keeping on top of everything whilst you are on annual leave or off sick is expected. Management have no respect or care for the staff. You are expected to put everything in for the company, but if you expect anything back, forget it! Even down to being paid for travel time, which sometimes could be long hours, you were expected to just work it. Management will happily throw staff under the bus to make themselves look good to those above them and customers. Your efforts are futile and after constant basing to work hard, they just pile more on you. Management have stale ideas, empty promises and a bag full of lies waiting for you! It's a terrible place to work, I'm disappointed in myself that I wasted so much energy here, and I beg you if you are reading this and thinking of going for an interview/ applying... Do your self a favour and don't.
