Pros

Working with kids is always rewarding if you love kids, the supervisors I had were very understanding of me being in grad school while working and allowed my schedule to be flexible, and most of my coworkers were really cool and we all got along pretty well, making for a mostly drama-free work environment

Cons

The pay is terrible; I had a bachelor’s degree at the time I started working there and I only made $10/hour, which after a year was raised to $10.23/hour, as if 23 extra cents an hour could even count as a raise. A coworker of mine had a high school diploma and had been with the company for 5 years, yet she only made about $9/hour. That’s absolutely ridiculous to me. Additionally, corporate has a ton of pointless regulations and rules, way too many for anyone to ever be in full compliance, although it seemed like as long as you were trying and you attended the monthly staff meetings and yearly professional development day, inspectors would let a lot of things slide. There’s also a ton of staff turn-over, which makes staff scheduling hectic and daily routines basically non-existant.

Thank you for the review. We are glad to hear you enjoy working with the children at your center. We’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the level of support you have been receiving. Working in the ECE field can be challenging at times but also very rewarding work. It is important to us that our employees feel they have the support they need to be successful in their role. We appreciate all that you did for the children and families at your center. Your concerns will be noted.

Pros

Parents and kids are wonderful. The parents communicated about their children and what they might need help with and showed up for school events.

Cons

Management. The management at the federal building was extremely toxic, and the assistant director changed moods and standards on a dime each day while interrupting class time whenever the mood struck her. I was told off for writing incident reports when required by state because it "made us look bad", and for giving ice packs for minor head injuries that didn't "look" bad enough to management. Some other teachers behaved very unprofessional, and at least one was constantly on her phone while watching children.
