Pros

The people - what's left of them.

Cons

Civica should be seen as a cautionary tale of how an amazing workplace culture, built up through years of great leadership, can suddenly come crashing down. For well over two decades, Civica was a fantastic place to work, with a friendly, supportive culture, great people and a real passion for public sector customers. Senior managers were respected and they in turn treated employees with respect. Things took a sharp turn about two years ago, following a shake-up in the senior management team. A down-to-Earth, plain-speaking, customer-centric culture gave way to empty meaningless slogans like ‘GovTech Champion’ and ‘Winning Today’, which everyone is now expected to parrot to increasingly confused customers. On top of all this, endless ill-thought through restructures and large-scale redundancies have basically hollowed out the company and zapped morale for those who have kept their heads down and soldiered on. Civica used to have a genuinely open culture of communication with employees, with regular ENPS surveys, but this all ground to a halt. The prevailing management ethos has become increasingly masculine and ‘blokeish’, with nasty, degrading behaviour, which wouldn’t be out of place in a 1980s office, now a lot more commonplace.

Pros

Great mission, vision and values. After multiple years in tech and following the volatility of markets and the new trend it refreshing to be somewhere that has true purpose and impact

Cons

Nothing major to most companies. Change and transformation isn’t linear and that’s ok

Pros

FREE FOOD . You can sleep in the job , sexual harrasment or the likes is swept under the rug , you can cone and go as you please during work hours ..

Cons

During my time at Civica’s Petersburg facility, employee turnover was a constant issue. It seemed as though employees were regularly resigning or being terminated, which contributed to instability throughout the organization. The frequent departures made it difficult to maintain continuity, retain institutional knowledge, and build confidence in leadership. Morale was often low, and many employees openly expressed frustration with management practices and the overall work environment. I also observed organizational changes, including the elimination of shifts and repeated restructuring efforts, which created uncertainty among employees. In my opinion, many of these issues stemmed from inconsistent leadership, poor communication, and a lack of accountability at various levels of management. There were situations where employees appeared to be expected to perform duties without adequate training, and there were concerns regarding whether established procedures were being followed consistently. For a company operating in a highly regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, I expected a stronger commitment to training, process discipline, and professional leadership. Instead, I frequently witnessed confusion regarding responsibilities, inconsistent decision-making, and operational inefficiencies that made it difficult for employees to succeed. While the company’s mission is commendable, the execution and workplace culture left much to be desired during my tenure.
