Pros
They will give you all the skills and exposure you need to eventually land a top level job in another company (Typically one of their direct competitors too) However they wont pay you well, or give you real opportunity for advancement so a career in this company is basically an extended internship
Cons
It will 10 years it takes to get those skills, where you will be underpaid and undervalued.... but you can take those skills to a direct competitor of CP, and get a 60% increase in compensation for the same level job! Unless you are one of the chosen you wont get promoted often enough to keep up with the increased cost of living. Good luck trying to figure out the code they have no written guidelines on what is needed at each level or to get to the next . If you ask what you need to do to get a promotion you will be told , the phrase "If you want to get to the next level you have to perform at the next level". They love to consolidate 3 or more jobs down to one, with no pay increase , its quite the magic trick if you have never seen it Their bonus program is a joke, unless you are a director level or higher expect 2-4% salary max You can literally not do anything and still keep your job , there is very little accountability , you have a lot of dead weight taking up opportunities that upcoming talent are hungry for. because of lack of opportunity you see a lot of turn over in high performing individuals that are not satisfied with their progression or compensation. The company believe that their benefits package is enough to convince employees to stay in a dead end underpaying job - salary - up to 3% raise annually - 1-4% annual bonus 3 weeks vacation dental eye health from day one The HR dept is dreadful, it takes over 6 months to fill open positions
