Pros

Extremely smart, dedicated people who enjoy challenging work. There are a lot of opportunities for career advancement both through client work and within Collaborative via internal initiatives. In addition to above average consultants, Collaborative is aligning with certain key industries which should help keep interesting work flowing. This alignment also presents opportunities for consultants to stretch and contribute by working on these initiatives. Collaborative is one of the most client-focused consulting companies to which I have ever been exposed. Collaborative management strives hard to 'do the right thing' in all situations to which I have been exposed. It is not always popular but the intent is for the good of the company, client and employee.

Cons

Internal processes are very typical of a small-medium sized company. Processes are not always clearly defined and sometimes change without notice. HR and others are very responsive to answer questions though. They are working to improve but there is work to be done. Staffing process is not always transparent to the consultant. Pros

There are some opportunities in the consulting projects to grow your skillsets. The CDSC in Wisconsin is staffed with great people, even if there is somewhat of a leadership gap. The Waterville office is small and somewhat desolate but shows promise to grow if the company can keep its focus on it.

Cons

The company is struggling to remain relevant. Salaries are below market and bonuses are the most pathetic I've ever received in a consulting company. Upper middle management is overpaid, bloated, manipulative and shady. The Burlington office is so toxic and poisonous it's tangible in the air. There is a refusal to see the need for shifting the business model as it may mean some peoples' jobs may become less relevant. "Hire and fire" is regularly used as a management tool. I was there one year and we had 3 rounds of layoffs, followed by lots of promotions in the upper tiers of the "good ol boy" network. That doesn't make much sense to me.
