Our employees, first we love em and then we leave em!

    Pros

Not many that I can think of. Used to be a nice mid-sized consulting firm, but now post-integration into CGI all corporate identity is gone.

    Cons

Senior management employee lovefest was total BS. When offered the chance to sell the company to CGI, the firm's ownership suddenly forgot about its long-term commitment and love for its employees and went for the green. With zero notice and virtually no explanation other than you were being let go for "business reasons", many senior level company leaders and other long-term "valued" employees were let go and left to fend for themselves.

Collaborative provides an excellent opportunity to work at interesting clients and to work on Collaborative as a firm

Apr 28, 2011 - Senior Principal Consultant in Burlington, MA

    Pros

Extremely smart, dedicated people who enjoy challenging work. There are a lot of opportunities for career advancement both through client work and within Collaborative via internal initiatives. In addition to above average consultants, Collaborative is aligning with certain key industries which should help keep interesting work flowing. This alignment also presents opportunities for consultants to stretch and contribute by working on these initiatives. Collaborative is one of the most client-focused consulting companies to which I have ever been exposed. Collaborative management strives hard to 'do the right thing' in all situations to which I have been exposed. It is not always popular but the intent is for the good of the company, client and employee.

    Cons

Internal processes are very typical of a small-medium sized company. Processes are not always clearly defined and sometimes change without notice. HR and others are very responsive to answer questions though. They are working to improve but there is work to be done. Staffing process is not always transparent to the consultant. Some of this is by necessity but it could be better. Again, they are working to improve this but......

Excellent company for those who want to stretch and grow

Oct 3, 2013 - Architect in Boston, MA

    Pros

Collaborative is a growing company that is made up of some of the strongest technology professionals I have ever worked with. The company puts the utmost value in client satisfaction and has built positive brand recognition in the Boston area. Employees have opportunities to stretch and grow especially if they show initiative and drive. There is a mix of cool projects and good ole fashioned staff aug just like at any consulting company but if you do a good job you will be recognized and have an opportunity to do cool work. Most of the employees are genuinely nice people which combined with the strong skills makes coming to work a lot of fun.

    Cons

The company has experienced some growing pains as they moved from 200 to 400 people and beyond. They are working hard to address these but there are certainly challenges. Also, assignments are driven by what is sold just like any other consulting company. This means that no every assignment is a perfect match but they will rotate people out for those that have "paid their dues".

Good family business with lots of internal problems

Aug 15, 2016 - Principal Consultant in Burlington, MA

    Business Outlook

    Pros

There are some opportunities in the consulting projects to grow your skillsets. The CDSC in Wisconsin is staffed with great people, even if there is somewhat of a leadership gap. The Waterville office is small and somewhat desolate but shows promise to grow if the company can keep its focus on it.

    Cons

The company is struggling to remain relevant. Salaries are below market and bonuses are the most pathetic I've ever received in a consulting company. Upper middle management is overpaid, bloated, manipulative and shady. The Burlington office is so toxic and poisonous it's tangible in the air. There is a refusal to see the need for shifting the business model as it may mean some peoples' jobs may become less relevant. "Hire and fire" is regularly used as a management tool. I was there one year and we had 3 rounds of layoffs, followed by lots of promotions in the upper tiers of the "good ol boy" network. That doesn't make much sense to me.
