Pros

Most co-workers are very friendly, other than that I don't think there are any. The 50% discount is just a scam to encourage staff to spend their wages within the company, thus they are not losing money by paying them.

Cons

Like many others have already said, "where do I even begin?"... Blatant disregard for New Zealand employment laws. By law anyone working 2-4 hours is entitled a 10 minute rest break. During my time at Typo I have not received a break during any shift less than 5 hours. I have even overhead a conversation between another xmas casual and the store manager where the girl who was working a 4 hour shift said "can I go on my break now?" the manager replied "when do you finish?" She said "in an hour" to which the store manager said "no break for you then". While it is not hard to do one of these shifts without a break that is not the point when the company continues to ignore local laws, how many others are they flouting? Not to mention any complaints of this and you are punished by having your shifts cut back as they know that there is always someone else wanting to work in the store. Poor management. Not only is the management of the store disorganized, the management from the head office are incredibly rude. One woman came into the store last week and greeted another casual and myself with "don't you know who I am?", well of course we don't if 1) you don't bother to actually introduce yourself and 2) we have been working at the store for a month. There are far too many staff and not enough hours to go round. Don't work here if you are looking for full time employment, even the assistant managers seem to get very irregular hours. While it does not bother me that I only get about 9 hours per week as I have another source of income, many of the xmas casuals were employed with promises of plenty hours and are now finding themselves working two 3 hour shifts per week. I actually feel sorry for the customers who step foot inside the store. Too many of friends have commented on how full on the staff are and how uncomfortable they feel in Typo. Basically there is at least 5 people on the floor asking every customer repetitively asking if they need help or want to purchase xyz to go with whatever else they are going to buy. Too many customers have snapped and said "just leave me alone" yet nothing changes, in fact it just gets worse. I don't not feel comfortable treating customers like this as I hate that style of service myself. Yes it is important to greet the customers as they walk into the store and have some one around to answer questions, but it is just too much having staff constantly breathing down the back of their necks.
