It can be a good experience depending on your general manager and district manager - Sales Support Fastenal Employee Review

Pros

Great sales experience, customer interactions, account management. The ability to learn how to source almost anything. Learning about inventory management. Most of the promotions are done internally, therefore there is room to grow.

Cons

Managers are not properly trained on how to be an effective manager so your experience will be hit or miss. Pay is below average considering the hours worked. The GM's and DM's are not required to follow a corporate structure and have a lot of autonomy to run their branch or district as they see fit, sometimes unethically.

Pros

Lots of responsibility. Decentralized company, which can work in your favor.

Cons

Pay is low based on competitors. Politics, lots of it. Cost-centers everywhere. Everyone has to make money off the branches: the hub, NA, regions, support, etc. Being a GM is probably one of the hardest jobs. Your job on the lean team is to support NA and the branch. It is hard to fully support both at the same time. It is a balancing act that frequently is blamed on you. Frequently, your coworkers just want to put their name on your work and create problems because of their egos.
