Pros

The will allow you to deal with customers at a very early stage in your training. Management in the company is easy to work with.

Cons

The good people leave quickly. Managers are close to the same age as the college students working for them. They do not have a lot of experience and knowledge to educate the younger employees. They won't blink an eye letting you go if sales drop for a month. During my time there we saw an extremely rapid growth in sales which required more manpower to handle. We hired 2 more people. We changed managers and within 1 month they let one person go due to a drop off in sales. They didn't even give the new manager time to recover from the transition and boost the sales back up.

Pros

I like my coworkers and my GM is a good .

Cons

The business model and lean staffing is simply unsustainable. Entry level pay, part time, little training, no commissions. Fastenal is focused on the sale rather than the customer. The wing it mentatility leaves customer service lacking. It's a roll coaster of putting one fire out after the other. They sale the position during the interview process but after your in there's empty promises with no real timelines for when the advancement is coming. Upper management seems out of touch with the day to day business. If you ask for help they simply say you have a good schedule. It's extremely disappointing that it has turned out this way because I was excited about the prospect of becoming an Account manager.
