Pros

Great distribution method which is helpful when you need a product quick.

Cons

I recieved basically no mentoring at all, which is one of the main reasons I took the job. I wasn't interested in nuts and bolts, but I think I really could have been if they would have guided me throughout the internship. From what I've seen/heard you do not get paid very well until you are a district manager. There is an increase in pay when you move from outside sales to general manager, but its moving from getting paid very little to average. If you are for sure taking the job and get a say in your location, pick an area that is surrounded by industrial businesses or is known for really high sales because it will be much easier to sell and you can make more money. If you are looking for a professional work environment, this really isn't the job you should consider. You get dirty and sweaty every day and unless you want to stay in the industrial business, you learn somewhat useless information.

Pros

I like my coworkers and my GM is a good .

Cons

The business model and lean staffing is simply unsustainable. Entry level pay, part time, little training, no commissions. Fastenal is focused on the sale rather than the customer. The wing it mentatility leaves customer service lacking. It's a roll coaster of putting one fire out after the other. They sale the position during the interview process but after your in there's empty promises with no real timelines for when the advancement is coming. Upper management seems out of touch with the day to day business. If you ask for help they simply say you have a good schedule. It's extremely disappointing that it has turned out this way because I was excited about the prospect of becoming an Account manager.
