Pros

It’s easy to sell for a company that has distribution centers everywhere and their own freight trucks. Very vast product line.

Cons

Account specialist/sales positions are required to do their own deliveries and fill all bins, vending and any other items sold which is very time consuming and prevents further sales. No inside sales help to fill orders or purchase inventory. No help lifting, no drivers. They hire managers who have never done any physical labor and have never been out to the field. The managers come and go as they please. The higher ups are worried more about putting extra money in their pockets than the physical well being of their employees. They promise to hire help but never do so. Sales people are horribly overworked and underpaid and they expect you to grow business but there is no way to do so having to do a four man job. I stayed three years too long.

Pros

I like my coworkers and my GM is a good .

Cons

The business model and lean staffing is simply unsustainable. Entry level pay, part time, little training, no commissions. Fastenal is focused on the sale rather than the customer. The wing it mentatility leaves customer service lacking. It's a roll coaster of putting one fire out after the other. They sale the position during the interview process but after your in there's empty promises with no real timelines for when the advancement is coming. Upper management seems out of touch with the day to day business. If you ask for help they simply say you have a good schedule. It's extremely disappointing that it has turned out this way because I was excited about the prospect of becoming an Account manager.
