Pros

-Very dynamic job, gives you experience in many areas of business -Relaxed work environment- depends on your GM and DM -If you are a good worker, you will stand out given the small branch environment -Work hard and strategically, and you will be valued

Cons

-often have to start out part time with low pay, and hope there is a full time position that comes up -When full-time pay/commission structure can be difficult- but if your branch is growing sales by a lot compared to previous year, you can easily make a couple thousand a month in just commission, on top of base-- if negative growth you will maybe make $200-400 commission -small team can be challenging in terms of work load if someone calls in sick or on vacation -limited flexibility and vacation days- probably not the best job if you have kids

Pros

I like my coworkers and my GM is a good .

Cons

The business model and lean staffing is simply unsustainable. Entry level pay, part time, little training, no commissions. Fastenal is focused on the sale rather than the customer. The wing it mentatility leaves customer service lacking. It's a roll coaster of putting one fire out after the other. They sale the position during the interview process but after your in there's empty promises with no real timelines for when the advancement is coming. Upper management seems out of touch with the day to day business. If you ask for help they simply say you have a good schedule. It's extremely disappointing that it has turned out this way because I was excited about the prospect of becoming an Account manager.
