Pros

First Service Residential is the perfect platform for someone who wants to further their career or growth in a company. I started at First Service 9 months ago as a temporary Assistant Community Manager. Almost immediately- I could tell that this was a work place I was going to love. Not only does First Service encourage a healthy work /life balance- they also encourage us to focus on our mental health. This allows its employees to feel safe and considered. 9 months later- I have officially been promoted to a Community Manager and I couldn’t be more excited and grateful. First Service Residential has become one of the most precious things in my life. Without management encouraging growth I never would have thought I could do it. I’m so glad I get to be a part of a team that sticks to its core values both in the field and in the office. I can’t wait to see where we are as a company in 10 years!

Cons

There should be a more official plan for training new hires. So many times I’ve seen a new employee come in- they are handed a book and told to sit with someone to shadow them for a couple days. A few online courses later and you’re supposed to be ready to go in your new position. This has proven to be ineffective and has left new hires feeling lost and defeated when they don’t know how to do something. I feel like we need to invest in our training process a little more to best provide the service that our 6 core values promise our boards and homeowners.

Pros

They take good care of the office people

Cons

Field workers are second hand citizens. Nepotism by language. Promote people that don't have the skill sets to do the job. The people that have the common sense to be leadership at this point don't want the responsibility anymore. What does that say?
