Pros

Geisinger invests highly on technology and has one of the largest pool of Tech support teams. With over 30 thousand employees we have a multitude of hardware and software to support. Working for a First Tier support is not for the weak. In the beginning you will be exposed to the fire hose of thousands of documentation that you may need to troubleshoot technical issues, along with having the ability to speak to a user to walk them through. You are not expected to memorize and know all of this knowledge but know where to find the information to help a user through. You really don't get a sense of things, until you have been here for at least 6 months and you really don't catch on to the flow until about a year. There are many people that are willing to help you along, and they do give you every chance to do well. Currently there have been restructuring to improve IT. When working in this environment you are working with many personalities and levels of ability. There are many great managers that do make this type of job better. We all work together in a team environment to give the best customer service. You will feel overwhelmed at first but you will do well. Something you may help to know when working at this level. Be understanding that everyone has different personalities so be patient with your co-workers. We all come here with many talents, be willing to share what you know to make the overall experience to customers better. Don't expect you will know everything in a short amount of time, technology always changes, so give this some time. Geisinger has a position for your specific Technical Talent, if after a year you feel you can use your talent in another department you have that opportunity to take another position as an internal candidate. It is a plus to have great customer service skill, and if you were thinking on getting your certifications in any of the tech fields like A+, Network+ etc then do it. I personally love working here. I have great managers (I have worked other places where the management was not the best) I love talking to the users and trying to put a smile on their face, I love learning something new everyday. My co-workers are great people and I appreciate their own individuality. The benefits are great, and they keep improving upon them.

Cons

Communication across departments, clashing of personalities, drama, tendency for clique environment

Pros

Worked fully remote which worked for me. Great health benefits. Worked for health plan not clinical.

Cons

Limited opportunities for growth without a college degree. Typical corporate where they cut resources and make big demands. Many long time employees which I thought was a pro at first, but realized they are stuck in old ways and don’t really want to hear a fresh new perspective or even spend time developing new people. As someone with ambition and interest in contributing, I felt stuck, limited, and bored.
