I worked at Geisinger full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits
They keep up with current technology
They take computer security very seriously. They do more than the basics.
    Nice people

    Cons

They are a little slow in listening to staff's good ideas but they do eventual get there. Communication could be better. People tend to repeat the rules to you over and over or you get no response. Not sure if they don't know the answer or they can not be bothered.

    Advice to Management

I think over time they will come around. They are merging with a lot of hospitals and it take time for the system to reblance. You need to give people goals.

    I worked at Geisinger full-time

    Pros

The only two good things about this job were the benefits as a full time employee and there was always overtime if you wanted it.

    Cons

    Low staff
    Stressful environment
    No teamwork
    Management has no communication

    Advice to Management

Work as team members and not dictators. Understand we are all humans and the stress of the deadlines and understaffing can make you very depressed.

I worked at Geisinger full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Patients receive excellent care and policy of patient focus makes a good place to work. Doing the "right" thing for a patient is always supported.
Overall, excellent people who are well qualified.
Excellent benefits (arguably make up for low to midranger salaries)
    Excellent equipment
    Excellent speciality providers (despite "churn")
    Excellent IT

    Cons

Staff pushed to limit with patient load/expectations
Floor, department and facility managers pushed to/past limits by upper management expectations that are not based on resources.
Upper echelons seem to create hoops to jump through, often due to misinterpretations of law
Salaries are, at best, midrange and they cannot easily retain high end talent.
Many of best providers consistently leave

    Advice to Management

Cut "training" in regulatory issues in half (i.e." GOALS")
Suck it up and increase providers by about 25%; your people are being beat to death
If you can't recruit first rate physicians at current salaries, then raise salaries
Stop expansion until base is shored up
Invest in bricks and mortar where needed (Wilkes Barre)
