Pros

The brand name counts for something and the store is an interesting building, albeit everything costs more there so staff discount is reasonable though why it remains better for some levels of staff is archaic. Some salaries are good. In some areas the culture is good but they are pretty ruthless in others. If you challenge too much expect to be shown the door.

Cons

Too many ‘lifers’ there in my opinion including Directors who only know Harrods. Managers / some Directors that think they know everything and won’t seek advice from team members. So a culture of top down and micro-management often based on which external advisor the manager spoke to last becoming today’s strategy. Poor planning and estimating then everything gets rushed and you are bullied to hit an unrealistic deadline to save face at higher levels - especially the case in IT. Lack of consultation by senior managers on direction so strategies get published, not discussed. Money and time wasted on vanity projects. There is no performance-based pay really. Just means higher paid get even more and the differential gets bigger each year. HR seem afraid to challenge what appears to be Michael Ward’s law. Guess it sums up a bit of a fear culture at board level. Seem desperate to get publicity as always posting stuff on LinkedIn but obviously are in the news regularly for all the wrong reasons.
