Pros

There are on paper things that everyone looks for: ~20 company holidays, unlimited PTO, highly competitive salary, stand up desks, on site gym, plenty of snackage, yada yada. All fantastic. But I think what sets Health Catalyst apart is how they treat and motivate employees. They give you ownership, and they trust you to make decisions like an owner. You feel empowered and respected and appreciated. For those reasons alone, I would stay here even if offered significantly more money at a different company. It's hard to put a number on being valued.

Cons

Because of the fast pace of growth and sense of ownership, it feels like I always have several highly important things to do. Even though we are given plenty of opportunity to take PTO and keep a work life balance, it is hard to do so when you know you have a lot of work to do. I find myself wanting to work at night, or over the weekend, to finish up one more thing, or provide value here or there. Its great to work for a engaging company, but hard to know when to stop when you know you'll be appreciated for the extra work. Is this even a con...?

I know how you feel. I have found myself on more than one occasion having to step back and "rebalance". Whether its putting off something I planned to do over the weekend to Monday in favor of family stuff (or just reading), or making an effort to turn off my phone when I'm on vacation, we all need time to recharge. A very wise man once shared with me, "since there really is no good time to take vacation, that essentially means ANYTIME is a good time to take vacation". Obviously we all need to use our judgment here, :) but the point is we should all make our own personal recharging time an important priority. I just finished working 60-70 hour weeks getting our series D completed (as did many others), and now I'll take some time to recharge and rebalance. I, like many of you, am just grateful I work at a company where that approach isn't only ok, its expected. We spike when we need to, but we also balance with downtime. Thanks! Sorry about the novel on this one.

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
