where do I begin. help scout was probably the best company I have ever worked for until my last year there. they over-hired and also put people in leadership that ultimately destroyed the once healthy culture within the team I was a part of. the director changed the way we worked and the expectations for our jobs so drastically that it didn't even feel like I was working for the same company I got hired into by my last year there. I devoted a lot of time and energy into this job because I genuinely loved it. I valued my team mates, my coaches and my VP. I had respect for the work I did there every day. in the end, they discarded me like a dirty rag and cheated me out of benefits that I had earned during my tenure. that was a pretty hard pill to swallow because some of those benefits are milestones that all employees look forward to. HR didn't give me a valid explanation for my termination, nor did they give me a chance to take corrective action. not even a PIP. this experience has made me realize that companies will treat you well until they don't. there was no compassion or empathy for me as a person in the end. everything became legal and formal and they pulled the plug so fast I could barely say goodbye to my team.
take your time off, folks. don't stay past your work hours and go spend that time with your family or taking care of yourself. don't give 100% because none of that will matter when they coldly fire you or lay you off. HR is there to protect the company, not its employees. remember that always!
