Pros

it's a nice place to work with great co-workers.nice and willing to do their best for the benefit of the company. everybdoy who work at hy-vee has that sense of spreading a great smile to customers and earns the rerspect and attention from customers in return. like the company because it's a great company but do need some internal works to do. there won't be a full picture if few pieces of a puzzle are missing.

Cons

every hy-vee may be different. but in my hy-vee store the management has to cooperate more with the workers as a full or part timer it's crucial and essential for the development of the company.if we all are the same, so consideration to each other should be a plus. taking feedback from the employees is a plus but the management does not do that which i consider a poison to the development of the company. if you are a manager in charge of a specific department and made some recent changes and did not communicate with the employees how do you want they to provide a better service to the customer who help make your living better. as you smile everyday you bring food to home and make your family happy you should be thankfull to the customers who did choose your store among several of them in your location to keep you in business. therefore communication is a key for better service as we do believe the customer is always right and who ever works at hy-vee should know what RIGHT stands for.my biggest issue is that hy-vee needs to develop a better recruiting system. most of the employees anr part timer and high school etc. it's great to offer those young employer an opportunity to feel the real professional world. but what you the management you are doing to help them understand that? how to encourage them to offer their best to the customer and invest themselves to thye company? do you management respond to the employees needs, requests by accomodating their availabilities? i gues those are questions managers should ask themselves first. most likely some of those employees do not care if the management does not show any effort to communicate with them and motivate them. let's keep up good work.

Pros

East management environment compared to other retail. Simple to onboard and opportunities for growth.

Cons

Depends on the store director or leadership team, as HyVee leans on “employee owned”, w/ majority ownership being store directors. Not much corporate oversight, so your relationship with management can make or break the job.

Pros

You get to constantly move around the store thru the different departments. Depending on the hours you work you can potentially learn how to do little things within each department, for example the deli or meat counters, which in turn opens an opportunity to get additional hours if needed when AOL doesn't have the business to keep all the shoppers shopping. Hyvee was always very good about giving you the opportunity to help in other areas of the store if your department was lacking hours or business to give you the full 40 for your work week.

Cons

The management/ chain of command often gets a little confusing as you have department managers, assiant managers, general mangers and a director. Often times I felt as if assiant managers sometimes gave different directions then the department manager would give almost condescending what you were told from your direct manager, but would fail to communicate with the department manager this info, causing conflict with employees being told to do it one way and then also getting asked why things were done that way after being trained to do it another way. Basically no communication by your assiant to the department manager causing internal conflict.
