Pros

Most of the individuals that you work with at LSU ITS are passionate and enjoy their work. The ones that truly value the educational system, the students, and the faculty are the easiest to work with, and your encounters with them are the most rewarding. Those that view customer service as a priority drive the atmosphere.

Cons

There are some employees who interpret their position as a "state worker" to mean that they must only do the bare minimum to "keep the wheels turning." While these people do not stifle progress, they are doing a disservice to themselves and their co-workers.

Pros

Supportive colleagues, collaborative research environment, access to advanced research facilities, opportunities to publish high-quality research, and valuable interdisciplinary collaborations.

Cons

Policies do not always differentiate between laboratory and computational research, resulting in unnecessary on-site attendance expectations.

Pros

Benefits covered 90% of my healthcare needs. The time-off and work-from-home policies were flexible and allowed me to meet my military requirements.

Cons

The salary policy did not guarantee advancement for low-level employees. You are guaranteed a merit raise each year, but you cannot receive a salary raise within the same six-month period. If an Unclassified employee reaches the maximum of their pay scale, they will no longer receive a merit raise. A department supervisor must approve any pay scale increase. The appeal process takes longer than most are willing to accept.
