Pros

You make a direct impact with disenfranchised people. People who would otherwise not be able to navigate English speaking services (which are apparently a lot i.e. gas, internet, insurance, medical, school, etc.) are now able to communicate freely without having a language barrier. You are helping typically people who are older or don't have much formal schooling, and to make their lives easier provides fulfillment. Most people are incredibly grateful for having an interpreter on the line, so angry customers/clients are very unlikely. You get to learn about different languages and expand your vocabulary x10 fold on the first month of work. You will be incredibly surprised how many things you learn. You will learn to write, listen, and interpret all at the same time. This will make you a person whose very attentive and can multitask.

Cons

You wake up, shower, get dressed, turn the stove and heat some water, you feed the cat, you open up the living room curtains, you throw the trash, you set your work station ready. You see the next door neighbor, 94 year old woman walking by, feeding birds. You see the hedge trimming person, cutting the same hedge everyday. You see birds, lots of birds, start to notice different kinds of chirps. Sunny days, cloudy days, neutral days. The fridge is starting to buzz louder and louder. This granola you've been eating 9 months straight every morning is starting to taste bad, but you liked peanut butter? Maybe it's the brand. On your 15 minute break, you leave your work station and cherish and spend time with your loved ones, as if you hadn't seen anyone for the past year. You start to develop this leg jitter that wasn't there before, it comes up anytime a caller is saying things too quick or unintelligible noise. You remind yourself you are making an impact on disenfranchised people. You tell yourself you're over reacting, and tell yourself you should be glad you have a job in the first place. The birds chirp louder. You stare outside one Tuesday morning, thinking to yourself, maybe I should pursue my dream as a film/art/business person.

Pros

Providing communications help for health care, insurance, beginning of life, end of life, counseling, IT. Among the highest minutes in the industry. Great record keeping, and pay is only 7 days after the close of every month. The annual training as well as recertification is paid events. Offers relative independence, after several audits, if you comply with excellence in customer service, you are pretty much on your own.

Cons

The minute rate is among the lower side among language companies. Find that while you can gain lots of successful advice from the company bulletin board, but offering advice is often better to those in authority.

Pros

We are given the tools to do the work and management is good. Very talented, small team of engineers. You are left alone for the most part.

Cons

Some managers are very abrasive and hard to deal with. Pay is dismal (better negotiate a good salary up front) and we haven't had raises in a long time. They don't even keep up with inflation, yet health insurance prices go up yearly. Bonus has no logic to it. It's decided by made up projected numbers that are completely unrealistic some years. There is very little guidance on where we are going except for one meeting a year.
