If you are a good optician you will be kept in that position and salary capped. Commissions become non existent as you are kept from selling and basically ordered to stay dispensing and inspecting. Frame stylists and apprentices make more with commissions. Management is consistently hired from outside the company with no experience, and many told me "I don't need to learn that, I am here to MANAGE". Managers need optical skills for when customers are upset and it's time to turn them over to management to be pacified.
