Pros

I loved the kids. They brightened my day. I also thought it was cool that a lot of the coworkers who worked there were open-minded and unique. It seemed to be like a hub for neat people.

Ok. I wrote a review a few months ago on here, and I just feel like it didn't fully do justice to what I experienced at this company. Here's my improved review of the cons (it's going to be long): 1. My bosses, typically, were awful. I felt like they were condescending, demeaning, and disrespectful a lot of the time. I felt anxiety and panic around them. I didn't feel welcome in their presence. I was always polite and accomodating and usually didn't feel that in return. They would watch my sessions and criticize what I did. I started to get the most insane anxiety working there, because the stress you are under is too much for anyone to bear. It was pretty much inhumane the amount of work and stress we were under. I'm not exaggerating or joking when I say that I feel that I've developed PTSD from this job. That said, there was 1 boss who worked there who could be cool and approachable. She left for a different center, though. 2. As I said, the stress level is off-the-hook in a bad way. You're required to do about 5 tasks per session (depending on the program you're tutoring), take detailed notes, manage behavior, keep the material interesting, do all the material extremely well, keep calm, give kids Lindamood-Bell specific rewards, chat on gchat if you have a problem, etc. 8 hours. A. Day. Try holding a smile and staying calm when you're being watched and critiqued while doing all this. Just run and save your time and heart. 3. I didn't feel valued. Like. at all. I felt like a cog in the machine. Maybe at other centers, it's different. I think some places have a different feel. But, at the center I worked at, it was a cold, machine-like, do-what-you're-told kind of place. If I gave input, a lot of the time, my higher-ups would shoot it down. If I spoke up, my higher-ups would condescend sometimes and act judgmental. I ended up becoming flustered on the job because I couldn't take the stress and feeling like if I breathed wrong there'd be backlash. 4. The rules changed often. If you mess up, you'll be reprimanded. If they tell you a bunch of things and you forget one thing, you'll hear about it. If you make a mistake, you'll be spoken to. If you have a bathroom emergency and have to leave, you'll be reprimanded. This is a serious issue of unfairness. This is not ok to treat employees this way!! 5. They will watch your sessions, or other people will. When you do online sessions, they can pop in without a camera coming on. It's not necessarily the bosses. It could be other coworkers who are watching, which I get. But be prepared for constant feedback. They will sit and tell you what you did right and what you can do differently next time. For me, personally, I got critiqued a freaking LOT. It was demoralizing. I hope this makes sense. Other people's experiences may be different, but this was my experience. I would NEVER recommend working for this company as it is right now. If it changed its culture, like I'll explain about below, then perhaps it'd be better. Part of why I'm even making this review as, well, honest as it is is because I felt I could never speak up without repercussions there. This feels like a chance to finally voice what I had to stuff away at that godforsaken place.

It’s great to try to help people, but…

They’re so set on their particular philosophical style, but realistically, it cannot be one size fits all. Clinicians who work there are NOT experts; they only get two weeks of training. And the sessions are extremely tight, with back-to-back students (just five minutes between each, leaving no time to prepare for the next one and no chance for clinicians to catch a breath). Lessons take place in cramped, mostly shared spaces, so everyone tends to be over-stressed. There’s no way that what is taught there, and the environment in which it’s taught, is worth what they’re charging families. Not to mention that the staff break room is like the size of a closet, and even in that tight space, many people just aren’t very friendly and hardly acknowledge your presence.
