If you are a package designer or a smart packaging individual with experience, there is no reason to waste your time in memory world. You are not even a third class citizen in terms of your voice for product. Also, there are so many managers, senior managers, directors, senior directors, vps, sr.vps, cvps, evps and more - it is almost a joke that anyone does any work with so many layers of management. Also, people who can curry (pun intended) favor seem to be promoted as managers without regard to actual people management ability.
