Pros
Stipend was very well paid. Work is awesome because it's all space and it's NASA. I enjoyed getting the opportunity to learn from senior engineers. There is an on-site gym.
Cons
Civil servant pay isn't that good and promotions take time. Older engineers stick around forever and don't retire, it seems to be the only way up.
