Pros

Despite being dissatisfied with the way Nationwide has treated its employees recently, I was employed as an adjuster there for 5 years, so not everything was bad. I would definitely say that Nationwide is very good about home/work balance and alternate work schedules. This is a huge benefit if you have a family. The #1 best thing about Nationwide is the staff. My co-workers were wonderful, and I truly enjoyed interacting with them. I haven't encountered a situation like that before or since, and I know plenty of people who have come back to Nationwide for that reason (I don't include management in that assessment).

Cons

I thought I was adequately compensated at Nationwide until I left the company and saw what other people in my position were earning at competing companies. It wasn't a huge differential, but it was significant enough. Unfortunately, the corporate culture at Nationwide changed from what it was when I first began there. The opportunities for advancement are slim to none, and if your relationship with your direct manager isn't completely stellar they can and will prevent you from being promoted. Before I left some managers were hired who were almost totally incompetent and were quickly running the department (and their employees) into the ground.

Pros

Culture is great, it feels like working with family. I have a good work life balance.

Cons

The pay could be a lot better as the world gets more expensive our pay should reflect that.
