Pros

Omnova Solutions was a fine place to work in a turnaround situation from prior years of inefficiency, making it both challenging and exciting to implement new ideas and processes.

Cons

The machinery at the plant was over 50 years old and could not produce 21st Century laminates without significant capital investment which was not practical. As a result, the plant became a test facility for New Product Development, no longer a production facility, leaving me and all the Plant Leadership Team with a choice of relocating to the suburbs of Cleveland corporate headquarters or being laid off. Due to my strong family ties to the Lehigh Valley area, I chose to be laid off and pursue positions in this area.

Pros

A lot of opportunity to make a ton of money because of the availability of overtime. For the most part, great people to work with. Health benny's pretty good, money pretty good, 401k.

Cons

Management very hard to please. Going thru a lot of changes but your efforts are not appreciated. Old rule of thumb here "My way or the highway". You ask a question or try something different, you are automatically labeled as being negative. Fear in the work place is NOT healthy. Corporate HR visits from time to time but does not interact with the people on the floor. Dragging your lieutenants thru the mud is not a good way to improve their confidence or production. This company always had oppurtunities to move up/promotions but it has changed now. They will use you to do the job but they will not hire you for the job because you do not have a degree. If they are good enough to fill in (sometimes for years), they should be good enough to have the job then.
