I wouldn't if I were you. - Account Manager Protolabs Employee Review

Pros

It's a cool product but it's being badly mismanaged. Also it's impossible to get fired from here because the turnover is so high.

Cons

It's just like any other soul sucking dysfunctional office job with a soul sucking leadership team; only difference is you wont be paid to deal with it like you would at other companies. You're never going to hit quota - the ELT will make sure of it. Your account list will change and you'll be the last to know. Your sales targets will change and you'll be the last to know; even if it drastically effects your work/life and cuts your comp in half. There’s no clear path for career progression or raises. When asked about advancement/raises, management provides vague responses without follow-through. Senior leadership tends to be distant and doesn't interact with their teams much, focusing more heavily on KPIs with limited direct engagement with employees (Protolabs LOVES KPI's). The HR department seems closely aligned with senior management, which can create challenging dynamics when addressing concerns. Employee surveys have been conducted, but results are often delayed and not fully addressed, leaving concerns unresolved. When the results are released, they skip the hard facts and make empty promises. They regularly post job openings online offering pay bands much higher then their current employees, which causes huge issues. I would encourage you to do your own research before accepting an offer from Protolabs; stock performance, growth comparison to competition, online review boards such as this one, etc.

Protolabs Response

We strongly encourage every candidate to do their research. You will find we have been recognized by multiple international organizations, within the last 2 years, for our culture and success as a leading manufacturer in our space. We also would encourage you to discuss with your recruiter and hiring manager the tenure of the teams at Protolabs and, in particular, the sales teams tenure. Ask questions about the culture, and the success our teams are experiencing. We have a strong culture, with high tenure, and continued success, which is outperforming all of our competitors over long periods of time, both in revenue and margin. We are happy to share all of the data with you! We are seeing record numbers of applicants for our roles, because of our success as an organization. Please ask those questions that are going to help you find the correct organization for you and your future success. We care about everyone's success, and want all parties to find the best role for them, and us! Please contact us at Talentacquisition@protolabs.com, if you are interested in having a conversation about the issues you are raising. We look forward to hearing from you.

Pros

Used to be great company with great culture and flexibility

Cons

New CEO Surresh has come in and completely destroyed the company culture that made Protolabs a great place to work at and was often awarded as such. Every meeting is coated in anxiety and the impending doom of layoffs despite record profits. In January a RTO was announced and there has been no flexibility and a straight up refusal to provide ADA accommodations to disabled employees by the HR department. They have taken away the flexibility that they used to provide to working parents that allowed them to work in office after/before their kids go to school despite not paying a living wage that would allow them to afford additional childcare. They have also chosen to make it even more difficult for employees to even receive a meets standards on their reviews as a cruel attempt to ensure they don’t have to give reasonable raises (which are rarely above 3% as is and they don’t provide market adjustments.) It’s unrecognizable from the company it used to be. They underpay, overwork, and expect the world of their employees while refusing to treat them with respect.
