Pros

Reputable Company with high aspirations for growth. Good quality staff that are knowledgeable and caring. Most of staff is very supportive toward each other and willing to give help when needed. Getting time off when needed is almost never an issue. Monthly self-scheduling policy. Charge nurses are "hands-on", very skilled, and there within seconds when called into a rapid response situation. Good rapport between MD's and RN's.

Cons

Seems most of the downside started when this specific hospital became part of Providence and no longer an independent hospital. (Believe me, I realize the bottom line is incredibly important. But it should NEVER be above patient safety. Management is very visible, but not truly available. Criticism is not accompanied by support or means by which to remedy problem. All staff members are not held to the same rules, standards, and expectations. (Favoritism is inevitable, but should not be so obvious.)

Pros

(This is for Providence St Vincent Medical Center in PDX) - staffing ratios - break nurses - ONA union - coworkers on my unit are very helpful and kind (can’t speak for every unit though)

Cons

- upper management hates the nursing union - we are short on many supplies on weekend night shifts - crappy insurance - my unit’s manager is almost never there, they’re always on vacation or working remote. This makes our manager very out of touch with the unit’s needs
