Pros

Beside the paycheck i cant think of one

Cons

Throughout my career as a BI Developer, I’ve had the opportunity to work with multiple organizations, but my experience at R1 has unfortunately been one of the most challenging. The past year has been particularly stressful, not due to the nature of the work itself, but because of the toxic environment and poor leadership practices. With over 7 years in the field, I’ve developed a strong understanding of BI processes and project delivery. One key lesson I’ve learned is that a healthy work environment is just as important as technical expertise. At R1, the culture is dominated by micromanagement and a lack of trust. There is little to no transparency from leadership, and project requirements frequently shift without warning or input from the team. Despite the complexity of the work, timelines are dictated solely by management, with little consideration for feasibility or team feedback. As a result, morale has suffered significantly. In just the past year, I’ve seen six team members leave a clear reflection of the unsustainable and toxic culture.

Pros

The voluntary separation offer was good.

Cons

I and hundreds of colleagues were transferred from Providence Health & Services to R1. We were told we were guaranteed our jobs for a year. They started offering voluntary separation packages less than a year in. This was suspicious. I didn't take the first couple of offers, but eventually I did - things were feeling uneasy. Since leaving I've heard that there were several layoffs. R1's India team has taken over a lot of the coding we were doing. In the reviews I read before we started with R1 I know losing jobs to the India team was common. I'm glad I left when I did but it's been hard finding a new job.
