Pros

There is an intense effort underway to align with new business opportunities. This opens the door for rather interesting projects that are not necessarily related to the standard retail grocery store fare. Also fairly serious about adopting ITIL throughout the (IT service) organization.

Cons

Chaotic implementations leads to a glut of changes, some of which are simply abandoned in favor of the next silver bullet. Serious issues with lack of skilled and disciplined project managers. There is a top down effort to align the management of projects and portfolios with the larger business initiatives, but the core problem is with the line project managers -- they need training in IT project management. Multiplicity of technologies -- tools and platforms -- leads to generalizations that are not in the best interest of building standards throughout the organization.

Pros

Nothing at all, only work at Safeway if you're about to be literally homeless

Cons

Genuinely hellish work environment. Management is lazy and absent, customers are the most disrespectful and clueless I have ever encountered. Complete unrealistic labor allocation and expectations. As a PIC, I have to run 9 SCO robots, unlock cases for customers, perform transactions at Customer Service, and answer external phone calls. Customers rightly get frustrated at the complete lack of care by corporate, and take it out on employees.
