Pros

- Mission Driven team focussed on delivering access to fast and affordable transfers for the global diaspora. - 100% Remote Workspace with Quarterly Retreats. - Competitive Compensation + Vacation Allowances. - Culture of transparent and collaborative work processes that stretch cross functionally. I've worked with Sendwave for just over a year now after leaving my last job with a large bank in Canada. The culture and vibe at Sendwave is completely different and lacks the bureaucratic and laggy norms that plagued my last job. Every project completed comes with a sense of really contributing in building out the company and project. The people are fantastic, warm and open and onboarding to the team last year was an incredibly easy process compared to how intimidating other processes have been in the past.

Cons

Working Remotely is a catch-22, and while largely a fun task - more could be done to make the day to day more collaborative than independent.

Thank you for taking the time to review your work experience with Sendwave. We do pride ourselves on how we live our mission and put our users first, and the ways we reward our employees for their hard work. We are continuing to work on ways of connecting our remote teams beyond our quarterly in-person retreats, by rolling out initiatives like our video happy hours and wellness initiatives, including team meditations. We’ll keep experimenting to find methods of keeping our teams close.

Pros

The mission to serve the Diaspora of Africa. People who truly care about the mission. Super smart technical staff. The ability to work remotely (company is 100% remote). Opportunity to travel domestically and internationally.

Cons

Leadership positions are held by people with little-to-no leadership experience. Ruthless prioritization every week, for years, has led many aspects of the company to be broken. There is not the appetite to fix problems with solutions that actually stick. The "people" of the company have not been prioritized -- on all levels -- corporate, customer support or operations (i.e. after nearly 5 years - no clear career paths, no raises, no bonuses, no ability of managers to incentivize teams or individuals with strong performance). The company takes a very knee-jerk or reactive approach to issues that arise from everyday run of business issues. While the culture promotes itself as 100% transparent and familial, all of the leadership positions are filled with friends of the founders. Often times it feels like an adult version of high school. The company does a poor job at promoting the family-like culture of it's remote workforce.

We appreciate your time working with us, and I regret that you didn’t enjoy your time working with us at Sendwave. We do have a strong team that’s excited to find ways to keep making sending money as easy as sending a text. Like many people looking to start a new business, our founders turned to their personal networks to hire the first employees. Since then, however, we have also brought in leadership from external sources and promoted people from within the company to help us in working towards our goal. In addition, we are working to build out our operational teams to appropriately support our newfound size and continued success in our mission, and keep learning.
