Pros

- Fully remote team - Many excellent peers

Cons

- Unstable prognosis after two rounds of layoffs - Meeting-focused culture (there are a lot of them, they are long, and they can disrupt focus if you aren't aggressive about your own calendar)

Thanks for sharing your feedback. We understand the feeling of uncertainty following our recent restructuring and layoffs and hindsight has been valuable to reflect on what we could have done differently. In this case, we should have moved forward with more aggressive plans a few months ago, even though that would have meant that more of our team would have been impacted during the initial round. We were trying to be as conservative as possible with the hopes of retaining as much of our amazing team as we could. While the recent changes have been difficult, they have put us on a much stronger financial footing and a path to positive cash flow in the near term. We are working closely with the department heads and team leads to ensure we focus our valuable time and efforts on the most impactful areas. We encourage you to raise any concerns with your manager or exec if you feel we need to prioritize further or need to be focused on different things to drive impact. We need everyone aligned, so we encourage you to raise anything that isn’t clear or isn’t aligned with our goals. As always, please share your feedback and ideas in our roundtable meetings or reach out to me, People Ops, or your manager or Exec to talk through any concerns or questions you have.

Pros

I’m continually impressed with the care and thoughtfulness Skillshare has for its people. Transparency is a value and that shines through - from a no-negotiation salary policy to consistent open communication on company business metrics. I feel genuinely supported and cared for by my manager. We get several unplug days throughout the year, a month long sabbatical at 3 years, and many other great benefits. My work life balance is great. I get to work with smart and engaging coworkers solving interesting problems. We have a strong data team and business decisions are data informed and thoughtful.

Cons

Post-COVID is a time of transition for many online membership services, and like many companies, Skillshare is learning to adjust in a new economic climate. However, I feel confident that the teams are making the right decisions.
